Tamara Bland

Dr. Tamara Bland is the Interim Dean for the Borra College of Health Sciences at Dominican University in River Forest overseeing a number of programs including nursing, dietetics, and a physician assistant program. Tamara began her career as a bedside nurse transitioning into educating students after receiving her MSN at Resurrection University. She holds an EdD from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. Interview discussion includes overcoming barriers in education, the importance of recognizing structural determinants of health, the impact of racism in the nursing profession, ongoing efforts to support BIPOC nursing students and the diversification of the field, difficulties faced by black women in leadership roles across nursing, and the importance of growing up on Chicago’s south side.
