During her time as a nurse, she held positions at the University of Illinois, Rush, and at Provident Hospital among others. The majority of Celestine’s career has been spent working for the Cook County Health System for close to three decades, serving in a number of capacities including work in the hospital floor and in public health as a home nurse and case manager. Discussion includes Celestine's experiences growing up during the Civil Rights movement after the murder of Emmett Till, mediating differences with diverse hospital staff, overcoming challenges around motherhood in education, and the importance of culturally sensitive public health.
