Janice Phillips

Dr. Janice Phillips received her training at North Park University in Chicago. She also is a UIC alumna, receiving her PhD from the university in 1993. Currently she is the Director of Nursing Research and Health Equity at Rush University Medical Center. Dr. Phillips has worked in the University of Chicago medical system, for the Miles Square Health Center, and has held numerous academic appointments including being named the first African American woman to hold an Oncology Nursing professorship with the American Cancer Society. Dr. Phillips is also a Robert Wood Johnson Policy Fellow, and decorated researcher focusing on breast cancer care and mortality reduction. Discussion includes growing up in the foster care system, the importance of research and advocacy for underserved communities, Dr. Phillips’ time working in the US Senate, and her time abroad as a nursing educator.
