Barbara Norman

Dr. Barbara Norman is a graduate of the Grant Hospital School of Nursing, a former Captain in the U.S. Army, and the former Deputy Commissioner of Health for the City of Chicago, serving under the late mayor Harold Washington. Her career has included work in academia as a nursing instructor, and as hospital nurse working throughout the Chicago metro region in hospital leadership. Discussion includes religion, Dr. Norman’s childhood growing up in the south side of Chicago attending Dunbar Academy, and her time spent as a student at the Grand Hospital School of Nursing and the racial adversity she faced during her time there. This interview is the first of two conducted with Dr. Norman. Interviewer was Karen Flynn.
