Mapping Care Project: The History of Black Nurses in Chicago

June Young

June Young graduated from Xavier University with a degree in psychology. She would go on to receive her nurse training at Rush University, through the Nursing Bridges Program, where she received her MSN. June has held positions at Riveredge Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital, and for the VA Healthcare system in Illinois, (among others) working in a variety of positions from med-surg to case management. She has also held positions as a nursing educator at Aurora University. Currently, June works as a nurse and as the owner of an independent home healthcare business. Discussion includes dealing with intra-racial politics on the hospital floor, travel nursing during the Covid-19 pandemic, June’s research and practice into improving patient communication systems and the importance of work and family balance in the profession. Interviewer was Karen Flynn.
